PERSONAL Significance & Description

Idle Hands was made in the class Intro To Game Development which tasked us with making a complete game from the ground up. From art, to code, to sound effects, we needed to do it all, pretty much for the first time. That was very liberating for me and you can definitely tell that by how out there the whole thing is. My initial pitch was a typing game where you unlearned how to type, based off of my embarrassment from typing slow. Instead of inputting letters sequentially, you press all of them simultaneously creating a sort of frantic finger Twister. With the visuals, I developed a pipeline that allowed me to produce aesthetically interesting visuals fairly quickly. The found object, magazine clippings were easy to create in mass quantity while still being very eye catching. This game taught me a lot about detail oriented design and how to work with every aspect of a game to best convey themes of the work. Unfortunately, late into development I found out my game did not work on various peoples computers because their keyboards were never designed to take in multiple inputs simultaneously. Different keyboards check keys in different chunks so there is no guarantee the game will work on any given computer.
